NOW IN MILAN is a performative photography project by Maurice van Es. This photographer graduated in 2013 from the Royal Academy of Art with an homonymous project that focused on the temporal dimensions intrinsic to the medium of photography: capture a moment in time that
will never return.
In Milan Maurice van Es continues to play with this thought. During bike rides through Milan he studies the town’s details and photographs found objects. This growing collection of images is immediately printed and at the same time it shrinks while deleting it from the digital file. What remains is just the printed image. NOW IN MILAN is a reaction to the growing amount of images we are confronted with on a daily basis. Maurice van Es also questions photography’s status as a means of documentation.
